North Mecklenburg Christmas Parade 2014

The Davidson Fire Department and Cornelius-Lemley Volunteer Fire Department proudly present the 32nd Annual North Mecklenburg Christmas Parade.

The time is drawing near for what promises to be one of the largest events to take place in the North Mecklenburg area, and we are glad you will be joining us for one of our longest-running traditions. We value your participation, and look forward to working with you again this year.  

For those that have been officially accepted into the parade (we are no longer accepting entries):

Below are the important details of your participation in the parade. Please make sure to review these details carefully and share this information with all in your group who are a part of your participation in the parade. If you have any questions that were not addressed in the below information, please contact Wilson Sadler at the Davidson Fire Department, 704-661-9808.

Line-up for the parade will takes place 9:30 a.m. – 12 p.m. All parade participants MUST be in their assigned position and ready to go by 12 p.m.; no exceptions. Anyone arriving after 12 p.m. will not be allowed to participate. It is important that everyone in your group is well informed of this information, the group’s scheduled Report Time and Staging Area Location. Parade Staff will be on site to assist you in your line up at your designated staging area.

Due to the multiple street closures, there may be some traffic delays. It is vitally important that you plan your travel time accordingly in order to arrive at your scheduled report time. The following are the street closures and times of closure along with the parade route information.

Main Parade Route & Street Closure:
· Main Street (Hwy. 115) from Beaty Street in Davidson to Washam-Potts Road in Cornelius – Closed from 12 – 3:00 p.m.
· The Parade begins at 200 North Main Street (Hwy. 115) from Davidson through Cornelius and ends at South Main Street at Hickory Street in Cornelius.
· The parade will continue to Lovers Lane (Cornelius) for disperse and unloading. (See attached End & Unloading area map)

Additional Street Closures in Davidson:
· Griffith Street (from Beaty Street to North Main Street) - Closed 11am – 3 p.m.
Please look for detour signs to connecting roads to Hwy. 115
· Jackson Street (from Depot Street to North Main Street) – Closed 10:30 a.m.
· Watson Street (from Depot Street to Delburg Street) – Closed 10:30 am

Additional Street Closures in Cornelius:
· Catawba Avenue (from Oak Street to Hwy. 115) – Closed from 12 p.m.– 3:00 p.m.
· Tractor Trailers will not be permitted east on Hwy. 21 on Catawba Avenue – Closed from 12:00 – 3:00 p.m.

Please note all horses have a number and will line up according to their number starting with #198. All horses must have a Coggins Test Certificate available.

Senior High School Bands: Hough, North Mecklenburg, Bradley Middle School, Bailey Concert-United House of Prayer for All People, please line up on Jackson Street. All other bands please line up to your assigned numbers.

Below you will find the list of parade rules. Please review carefully and make sure to share this information with all parties involved with your participation in the parade. Upon accepting your participation in this parade you agree to honor and respect these parade rules. Out of respect and fairness to all participants in the parade, these rules will be enforced.

Inclement Weather Line:
The parade will go on, rain or shine. However, in the case of severe weather conditions, please call the inclement weather line at 704.940.9637 for information. This line will be updated starting at 9:00 a.m. on parade day. Also, the information will be posted to the Town of Davidson web site,<> .

* Please do not have Santa or Mrs. Claus on your float as Santa will be on the last entry.
* All vehicles and floats must be decorated in a Christmas theme.
* For the safety of everyone, objects may not be thrown into the crowd (absolutely no candy thrown or handed out).
* Soliciting during the event is prohibited.
* Please keep at least 100 Feet (7 Car Lengths) between entries on the parade route.
* Possession and consumption of alcoholic beverages is prohibited.
* The parade committee reserves the right to prohibit costumes, banners, flags, signs, logos or any other props or materials it deems inappropriate.
* All walking units must continue moving forward during the parade. Stopping to perform is not permitted.
* Participants riding on floats, vehicles or any moving entry may not get off or on once the entry begins moving. Accidents happen with moving vehicles,
therefore, the participants are either on or off the entry for the entire period of the parade.

* Only participants/groups who have been issued a parade number may march in the parade/street.
* Vendors must be permitted by the Town of Davidson and/or the Town of Cornelius and may not set up in the roadway.
* In the event of an emergency on the parade route, all participants are asked to move to the right side of the street (southbound lane) to allow emergency services to pass in the left (northbound) lane.

Prizes will be given in the following categories:

c. Best Old Tractor
d. Most enthusiastic
