Missing Pets Policy
When a dog or cat is brought into the custody of the Davidson Police Department, it is checked for a registration tag or electronically implanted chip with owner information.  If the pet is not immediately identified, the animal is housed at the town's animal kennel and kept for 72 hours, as long as it is not sick or aggressive.  A photo of the animal is posted on the town's website, Facebook page and communicated via eCrier and Twitter, and also sent to DavidsonNews.net.  If no owner is identified by the end of the 72-hour period, the animal is transferred to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Animal Care & Control Center.  If the animal is sick or aggressive, it is not kept in Davidson, but sent immediately to CMAC&C.
