NCDOT to Modify Griffith Street Interchange in Davidson
CHARLOTTE – The N.C. Department of Transportation will be modifying a traffic pattern at the Griffith Street interchange with Interstate 77 in Davidson in an effort to keep traffic flowing and minimize backups at the I-77 ramps. The changes will be implemented on Thursday, August 24.
The department has been working with the Town of Davidson on a solution to address traffic backing up from the southbound exit ramp on the mainline of I-77. Delays have been increasing with the return of school traffic.
To keep traffic moving, the department will modify the Griffith Street interchange exiting I-77 North to allow only right turns. Motorists can then make a U-turn in the existing roundabout if needed. The interchange exiting I-77 South will be converted to a three-way stop, which should help keep southbound traffic from backing up to the interstate.
