Asbestos
It's an important topic and we want to make sure everyone stays in-the-know, especially those who live close to the Metrolina Warehouse site. The Town of Davidson will serve as the local connector to resources, since we are not the experts in this arena.
The North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality (NCDEQ) is responsible for work being done at the Metrolina Warehouse site (301 Depot Street). The United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is responsible for remediating the properties adjacent to the Metrolina Warehouse site and in the surrounding area. The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (Division of Public Health) can answer questions regarding health concerns based on potential asbestos exposure.

Ada Jenkins Center, Davidson, NC
The North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality (NCDEQ) Division of Waste Management (DWM) Brownfields Program held a public information meeting pursuant to G.S. 130A-310.34(c), concerning redevelopment plans for the Davidson Depot Street Brownfields Property in Davidson, North Carolina.
The information meeting began 6:30 p.m. on Monday, December 9, 2019 in the Ada Jenkins Center, located at 212 Gamble Street in Davidson, North Carolina. Representatives from DEQ, N.C. Department of Health and Human Services (NCDHHS) as well as Mecklenburg County and Town of Davidson were in attendance.
This meeting provided an opportunity for citizens to get an update on the Brownfields redevelopment plans for the property. The meeting consisted of presentations, a question-and-answer period and a listening session. The meeting included a brief history of past events, ongoing activities and the planned long-term cap solution. Attendees had an opportunity to speak and ask questions.
The meeting focused on the proposed Brownfields redevelopment and long-term asbestos risk management at the property, not the local land-use or zoning provisions related to the project. This meeting did not cover NCDOT roadway project U-5907 or Charlotte Water water-main expansion plan.
You may view the full notice of the public hearing from the NCDEQ here. Presentation available here.
